2009-2010 Season Schedule:
October 3rd: The Enchanted Trail. Saturday, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Olson Nature Preserve. Guided trail walks, a campfire, sing-a-long and popcorn treats. Featured speaker Nebraska Secretary of State, John Gale as early Nebraskan “Cactus Jack.” Free Admission.
October 18th, 19th: Nebraska Shakespeare Festival — Macbeth. Sunday, 7 p.m. & Monday, 8:15 a.m. Boone Central Gym in Albion. Nebraska Shakespeare will present an abridged version of Macbeth to the general public on Sunday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. A talk-back session will follow the performance, allowing audience members to ask questions of the cast. A second performance for area High School and Middle School students will be presented in the High School Gym the next morning, Monday, October 19th at 8:15 a.m. (this performance is also open to the public). Following this performance, the actors will conduct workshops with Boone Central Middle School students.
December 6th: Broad Appeal. Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. Famous songs from the ‘Hit Parade’ era- 1935-1959. If you yearn for the music of yesteryear, tune in to Broad Appeal. These three women, each an accomplished performer and vocal instructor, capture the essence of the era through the glorious melodies of ‘Your Hit Parade,’ the popular show that brought the week’s top songs to eager audiences gathered around their radios and televisions. Broad Appeal brings the hits and the stories behind them to life. They intermix a cappella arrangements and lively recorded band accompaniments in shows that can be adapted to run anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. From the obscure ‘Little Shoemaker’ to the wildly popular ‘Sincerely,’ Broad Appeal charms diverse audiences with their rich harmonies and seamless blend. The group is also available for workshops in vocal harmony and the coaching of small ensembles.
January 15th: Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir. Friday, 7 p.m., St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Albion. The Nebraska Wesleyan Choir is recognized throughout this country and internationally for performance excellence and a repertoire rich in global diversity.
February 14th: Mary Carrick. Cancelled due to weather. Sunday, 7 p.m. Albion Country Club. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the original cabaret Some People: Songs of Broadway and Beyond featuring the exquisite vocals of seasoned performer Mary Carrick accompanied by pianist Todd Brooks. From Broadway classics and today’s favorites, this thoroughly entertaining program includes show stopping hits, tender ballads, and whimsical tunes from the greatest composers of yesterday and today.
March 21st: Jill Anderson/Celtic Cabaret. Sunday, 3 p.m. UCC-Congregational Church, Albion. Jill Anderson will return to Albion with Bernie and Erin Lowis to present Celtic Cabaret. a fascinating overview of Irish music and verse. Through haunting laments, rousing military marches, comedic novelty songs, classic poetry, lively jigs and reels and passionate ballads, the listener is taken on a tour of the Erin Isles.
April 18th: The Toasted Ponies. Sunday, 3 p.m. Zion Lutheran Church, Albion. Featuring four of the region’s most popular and accomplished musicians, The Toasted Ponies lay down a unique blend of bluegrass, acoustic music and original songs.
June 21st - 26th: Missoula Children’s Theatre. Performances: Saturday, June 26th, 3 p.m. & 7 p.m, Boone Central Gym in Albion. The season will conclude the week of June 21st with a visit from two traveling actors/producers from the Missoula Children’s Theatre. The MCT provides area children who have completed grades K-12 an opportunity to audition, rehearse and present a fun and entertaining musical play.
Occasionally we are able to present artists and events on short notice so be sure to watch for announcements of unscheduled events!
A season ticket purchased from an Albion Area Arts Council Board Member will give you free admission to all of these events. Admission at the door of each performance in $12.50 per adult and $5 per student so a season ticket is a great value! Tickets are also available from any board member, at the Good Life Discount Pharmacy in Albion or from Paul & Lori Hosford at 402-395-6727.
